The New York based lingerie brand, Journelle has big plans for retail expansion in the U.S. market. In addition to the lingerie chain’s current free standing stores in SoHo, Union Square and the Upper East Side, two new stores will open this year in the metropolitan area and four more units will be added in 2014.
“The goal is to have a specialty chain across the U.S” said Claire Chambers, founder and chief executive officer of Journelle.
This past January, Triumph International, Munich-based mega innerwear company worth $2.1 billion, acquired a majority stake in Journelle with expanding through the Americas in mind. This acquisition gave Journelle the cash infusion needed to expand the chain, and they plan to use the capital to grow their e-commerce website as well as their brick-and-mortar stores. Chambers sees this as the next level for Journelle as sales growth online for them has been over 100 percent each year, and expects “to triple the size of online business by the end of 2014.”
