[dropcap]M[/dropcap]icah Lidberg just might be the first designer to debut a collection at New York Fashion Week that features dinosaurs ripping into the flesh of lifeless prey. But when Lacoste L!VE invited the Missouri-bred illustrator to bring his whimsical, storybook style to the brand, they knew what they were getting into. Lidberg, whose work has appeared everywhere from the New York Times to Nylon, is known for images full of flowing movements, bright color, strange critters and occasional violence. “I designed the tag last,” he says. “It was almost like signing a painting.” The pieces won’t be available until June, but Lidberg gave SPIN a preview at the picturesque Lacoste Lounge during fashion week earlier this month.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]hey say that opposites attract. But, this latest fashion collaboration feels like two worlds colliding. Converse and Missoni have gotten in bed together and birthed the fifth Missoni for Converse line, spanking new twist on the classic Chuck Taylor design for the Spring 2012 season.
The line features two women’s-only versions of the shoe with a touch of metallic sparkle added to Missoni’s signature zig zag, knit used in the uppers. One comes in green and white with silver and gold metallic detailing and the other in white and tan with subtle hues of peach accented with silver and gold.
In addition to the women’s-only versions, the collection also includes a fresh unisex model that comes in Missoni’s exclusive multi-stitch, space-dyed fabric in sharp hues of navy and white. Already familiar from past Converse and Missoni collaborations, each shoe has premium leather on the tongue’s upper, logos, heel-pull-tabs and toe caps. It is more than sure that these beauties will be some of the most sought after sneakers of the season.
Kenzo and Vans announced also a series of new collections for summer 2012. There will be three installments of products set to hit stores in May, June and July. Headed by Opening Ceremony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, Kenzo, has recently seen an injection of youthful designs.
For the first assortment of styles, Kenzo’s vibrant colors and net prints from the Spring Summer 2012 season will be featured on Vans’ original skate shoe, the Era. The collection includes seven colorways available for men and women that feature the bright blue, white, green and red colors.
The collections will be sold at Kenzo stores, Kenzo.com and at select retail partners including Opening Ceremony, Colette, Harvey Nichols, Bosco Milan,Lane Crawford and IT starting in mid-May 2012.
