Chanel Jelly Shoes

Every season sees the return of an unexpected retro fashion and this year has been a bumper trip down memory lane. And nostalgia is evident in this week’s most loved item, baby pink Chanel S/S12 Jelly Shoes, chosen by fashion bloggers,  t h i s / o r / t h a t / ? / founder Mélanie Crété  for example.

Originating in post war Britain, where leather and other resources were scarce, jelly shoes started as a practical footwear option, ideal for wet or sandy conditions. The fashion was launched in the States at the 1982 World Fair in Knoxville, where a buyer for New York’s Bloomingdales saw the display and promptly ordered 2,400 pairs in nine different styles. The shoes took off, and the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier were brought in to design new styles. However, the appeal of the jelly shoe has remained nostalgic and kitsch, never really stepping out of the arena of novelty footwear. Appearances on the silver screen have been limited, aside from the black pair that adorn the feet of Jeff Daniel’s The Dude throughout The Big Lebowski, yet, with the production of a Chanel version, summer 2012 seems to be marked as their moment.

Bill Gaytten Presented His Last Dior Collection

BILL GAYTTEN has unveiled his final pre-spring/summer 2013 collection for Dior, following the designer’s departure from the label on June 5. He remains acreative director of John Galliano. Raf Simons will make his debut for the French fashion brand during Couture Fashion Week in July, following his appointment as its creative director back in April.

Gaytten’s resort collection was much like his fall one: full of airy, voluminous skirts, trim riding jackets, and tulle. He kept his emphasis on the waist with lots of belted dresses, corseted tops, and peplums. If we’ve learned anything about Gaytten over the past year, it’s that his forte lies in pretty, wearable, sellable clothes — he may never be the imaginative iconoclast that John Galliano was, but he deftly safeguarded Dior’s image at a time when a steady hand was needed.

Carven launches flip-up retro-styled sunglasses

Collaborating with eyewear brand L’Amy, French luxury house Carven is launching an eyewear line with a collection of round frame flip-up sunglasses. The Anastasie model comes in a variety of playful colors and brow bar shapes.

Carven’s Anastasie glasses feature round lenses with gold metal rims, with clip-on solar lenses that can be flipped down.

As for the colors, fashionistas will be able to choose from a selection of summery neon tones like yellow, green, pink and red.

Missoni designs sandals for Havaianas

Italian brand Missoni, which specializes in original printed knitwear, is collaborating with Brazilian brand Havaianas for a high-end capsule collection of thong sandals.

Sporting iconic Missoni motifs, the thong sandals are composed of leftover pieces of the Brazilian brand’s multicolored rubber flip flops, which are then put together to create various forms of zigzag patchwork.

One of the new models for 2012, the “Missoni Loves Havaianas Slim,” is adorned with several jewel-style lucky charms and will be available in select retail outlets in mid-June for a price of 90 euros.

Last year, Missoni collaborated with another mass-market brand, US retailer Target, creating a 400-piece range with its signature zigzag patterns.

The collaboration line, with many items priced at under $50, was so popular that it sold out almost immediately from retailers across the US.

Gucci Joins Safilo to Present a Collection of Sustainable Sunglasse

Luxury can be sustainable and need not be a burden on the environment. Gucci, one of the world’s leading luxury brands had way back in 2004 voluntarily initiated a Corporate Social Responsibility (SA 8000) certification process for its entire production cycle. They are now collaborating with Safilo who are worldwide leader in the premium eyewear segment and produce some of the most expensive sunglasses in the world.

Together they have launched a collection of sustainable models of sunglasses.Last year in August Gucci and Safilo together introduced four models made from acetate containing a high percentage of material from natural origins.

The two collaborators, Gucci and Safilo are working on creating a prototype made from a material alternative to plastic. Both the renowned Italian companies share the same human, ethical and social values and will continue to strive together towards greater sustainability.

Dior opens an ephemeral boutique in the heart of Saint-Tropez.

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]nce again, Dior takes up residence in Saint-Tropez and settles in the intimate atmosphere of the gardens of the Embassy. In an  eighteenth century in an atmosphere  Dior opens its temporary boutique that allows both to buy the latest creations from the houseand  enjoy little culinary moments.

Peter Marino has handled the interior design and was inspired by the famous boutique on Avenue Montaigne which includes femininity and modernity in shades of gray and “toile” .The spaces are filled with contemporary works such as the table Hubert Le Galland Lawrence Chauvat mirror.

The “Plus” of this year: the ephemeral concept store expands with a new room exclusively dedicated to ready-to-wear.
On the other side of the street, moved the temporary boutique Dior Homme. The selection of ready-to-wear and accessories reflects the inspiration and aesthetics of Dior Homme.

For the second consecutive year, the triple starred  Chef, Yannick Alleno, will settle in the gardens of the Dior boutique in St. Tropez.

Burberry 2012 Eyewear Collection: One Night Only in Paris

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]hursday, May 3, 2012, the British band One Night Only gave an exclusive concertin Paris to celebrate the campaign Burberry Summer 2012 Eyewear. The eveningwas held at the Burberry flagship store on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in the 8tharrondissement of Paris.

One Night Only is one of the four British bands that  recorded music exclusively for the Burberry campaign. The three other groups are : The Daydream Club in Milan on May 3, Marika Hackman on May 3 in New York and Life in Film 4 May in Sydney.During the evening Paris, among the guests, Clotilde Courau, Yelle, Hande Kodja,Lucia Lucas, were all dressed  in Burberry.

Chanel: New boutique in Saint-Tropez

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]rom April 28 to October 7, 2012, the Maison  Chanel opens a pop up store in Saint Tropez. The boutique will settle temporarily  for the second  time in the Hotel La Mistralée, a  few meters from the Vieux Port.

The choice of destination was not done randomly. Indeed, from May 16, the south of France will host, as usual, the 65th Festival de Cannes. It is in a nineteenth century ambience that Chanel will exhibit its Paris-Bombay and Spring-Summer 2012 collections.
