Since April, Valentino has continuously visited the New York City Ballet’s costume department preparing his vision and designs for their upcoming debut on stage. Fashion design and ballet go hand in hand with one another, and Valentino’s designs for the Ballet prove this theory correct. Peter Martins, the director of the New York City Ballet, asked Valentino to take this project on because as Martins said, “I don’t think he does anything but on a big scale”.
Although Valentino stuck to a mainly black and white palette, his signature style is still evident throughout the 16 piece collection of costumes. Dramatically full gowns with chiffon and organza, plus ruffles upon ruffles made Valentino’s style evident. When asked about the collection, Valentino stated “I like the idea of something romantic, for girls who want to dance and flirt. She is just beautiful, and I liked to see how happy she was wearing something so different”.
